Husband among four get death penalty for killing Zakia

A Dhaka court has sentenced four people, including husband, to death in the murder case of housewife Zakia Begum in Gopalganj.

Judge Zakir Hossain of Dhaka's Speedy Trial Tribunal No. 2 pronounced the verdict on Thursday.

The convicts sentenced to death are Zakia's husband Morshedayan Nishan, Nishan's brother Ehsan Susan, brother-in-law Hasan Sheikh and their employee Anisur Rahman.

Besides the death sentence, the court also fined the accused Morshedayan Nishan Tk five lakh and the other three accused Tk three lakh each.

The convicted Morshedayan Nishan was the Gopalganj correspondent of Mashranga Television and the editor of the local daily Amader Gopalganj. He is currently on the run. The other three accused are in jail.
