Mango trees start sprouting in C'nawabganj

With the rise of temperature, the mango trees have started sprouting in the district.

Around 45 to 50 percent trees have already blossomed, Department of Agricultural Extension (DAE) sources said, reports BSS.

Prolonged cold, foggy and cloudy weather and rain have caused less and late flowering this year, said Md. Nazrul Islam, deputy director of district DAE.

He added that 23 to 29 degree celsius temperature is perfect for flowering.

Since, the temperature is rising, the rest of the trees are expected to blossom very soon, he said.

If further bad weather like fog, cloud or rain does not occur till bearing fruits, a good production may be expected, he added.

Natural disasters like prolonged draught, storm and hailstorm are the main enemies of mangoes when the fruits become larger, Islam continued.

Last year, a total of 3,82,118 metric tons of mangoes was produced in the district.

There are 31,37,040 mango trees here. Of them, 3,96,870 mango trees are in Chapainawabganj sadar upazila, 17,39,950 in Shibganj upazila, 3,44,135 in Gomostapur upazila, 3,48,710 in Nachole upazila and 3,07,375 in Bholahat upazila.
