Two JMB men jailed for bombing in Hussaini Dalan

In a lawsuit filed over the bomb blasts at Old Dhaka's Hussaini Dalan in October 2015, a Dhaka tribunal sentenced two members of the proscribed terrorist group Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) to separate periods of punishment.

They were also fined Tk 10,000 apiece by the tribunal, and if they do not pay, they will be sentenced to another six months in prison.

The decision was announced on Tuesday in the presence of the three prisoners in a courtroom by Judge Md Majibur Rahman of the Anti-Terrorism Special Tribunal of Dhaka.

The court chastised the case's investigating officer for failing to include the names of the attack's mastermind and planners in the charge sheet. As a result, the court was unable to bring them to justice, the court stated while pronouncing.

Accused Mohammad Arman was sentenced to ten years in prison and Kabir Hossain to seven years.

Six others - Rubel Islam, Chan Miah, Omar Faruk, Ahsan Ullah Mahmud, Shahjalal Miah, and Abu Sayeed - were acquitted because their role in the incident could not be proven.

Kabir Hossain, Abu Sayeed, Mohammad Arman, and Rubel Islam are currently in custody, while the other five are out on bail.

The prosecution and defense had finished their arguments earlier, and the tribunal had recorded the statements of 31 prosecution witnesses, including the case's complainant.

A Dhaka court issued charges against eight of the case's defendants on May 31, 2017.

Two people were killed and 115 others were injured in bomb explosions at the Shia Muslim community's headquarters, Hussaini Dalan, in the old part of Dhaka city, on October 24, 2015.

The next day, Jalal Uddin, a Chawlkbazar Police Station sub-inspector, filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against some unidentified people.

The charge sheet against the 10 JMB men was filed in the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka on October 16, 2016, by Mohammad Shafi Uddin Sheikh, an inspector from the Detective Branch (DB) of the police.

Two additional suspects, Masud Rana Suman and Zahid Hasan Rana, are being tried in a Dhaka Juvenile Court since they are minors.

Kabir, Arman, and Zahid had confessed to the crime, according to the case paperwork.
