Justice Shahabuddin laid to eternal rest

People from all walks of life said their goodbyes to former president Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed on Sunday with their affection.

The former chief justice was laid to rest about 12:15 p.m. in Dhaka's Banani Graveyard, according to Supreme Court spokesman Md Saifur Rahman.

His body was kept at the Supreme Court's National Eidgah Field for around an hour starting at 10 a.m., when SC judges, former judges, attorneys, law officers, political figures, and Justice Shahabuddin's family members paid their last respects to him.

Shahabuddin's body was carried to Banani Graveyard for burial after his second namaz-e-janaza on National Eidgah field.

The janaza was attended by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, former Chief Justices Syed Mahmud Hossain and Md Muzammel Hossain, judges from the SC's Appellate and High Court Divisions, lawyers from the SC, acting Attorney General SM Munir, some deputy Attorney Generals, and other government and SC officials.

They laid wreaths on Justice Shahabuddin Ahmed's coffin as a mark of respect.

In honor of Justice Shahabuddin, the chief justice has stopped all judicial operations in the Appellate and High Court Divisions for Sunday.

In the age of 92, Justice Shahabuddin died at the Dhaka Combined Military Hospital (CMH).

His first janaza was held on Saturday in his ancestral village of Netrakona.
