Court allows Babul Akhter's handwriting test

Former Superintendent of Police (SP) Babul Akhter, accused in the murder of his wife Mahmuda Khanam Mitu in Chittagong, has been allowed to undergo a handwriting test.

The court of Chittagong Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Muhammad Abdul Halim passed the order on Tuesday in the presence of Babul Akhtar.

The investigating officer of the case, PBI Inspector Abu Zafar Md Omar Farooq said that an application was made to the court for the handwriting test of the accused Babul. The court granted it after a hearing on Tuesday.

Besides, handwriting samples of Babul Akhtar were collected in the presence of PBI. These will now be sent to the lab for testing.

The court has accepted the final report in the case filed by Mitu's father Mosharraf Hossain on March 8.

On May 11, 2021, the PBI interrogated Babul Akhtar in custody. Later, a case was filed against Babul Akhter alleging his involvement in the murder.

Mahmuda Khanam Mitu was first shot and later hacked to death at the GEC intersection on the morning of June 5, 2016. Mitu's husband Babul Akhter, who was then staying in Dhaka, filed a case with the Panchlaish police station.
