4 members of a family burned in Badda

A fire at a family's home in Dhaka's Badda early Wednesday burned four members of the family, including two children.

According to hospital authorities, the injured — Saeed Hasan, a businessman in Gulistan's Kaptan Bazar; his wife Rekha Akhter, their daughter Safa, 10 and son Safiyan,  9 — are being treated at Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.

While they were sleeping, the incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. on the top level of a three-story building in Beraid Purbapara.

On information, two firefighting units rushed to the spot and extinguished the blaze. According to Fire Service and Civil Defence Headquarters, the fire was triggered by a cooking gas cylinder explosion in one of the flats and spread on the building soon.

Saeed's condition is serious, with 95 percent of his body burned. According to hospital reports, his wife received a 30 percent burn, while Safa and Safiyan received 11 and 25 percent burns, respectively.
