Police arrest 3 over Sabujbagh housewife murder

Police have arrested three people for their alleged involvement in the murder of a housewife in the city's Sabujbagh area.

The arrestees were identified as air-conditioner (AC) repairman Bappy (31) and his two associates Sumon Hossain Hridoy (22) and Rubel (42), Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP)

Abdul Ahad said while addressing a press briefing at the conference room of Motijheel Police Station here today.

Tania Afroze, a housewife, was stabbed to death on March 26 at her home on the first floor of a building at Begunbari Master Goli under Sabujbagh police station.

During the incident she was with her 4-year-old daughter Maymuna Jahan and 10-month old son Tanvirul Islam while Tania's husband Mainul Islam was in Faridpur, where he works as a technician at Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Abdul Ahad said Tania was cooking with her son while Bappy along with Sumon Hossain Hridoy was repairing the AC at her home. After some times, Rubel entered the house and introduced him as another AC repairman.

When Tania came out of the kitchen, she found her cupboard unlocked and all belongings scattered and shouted for others' help, the police official said, adding at this stage, Bappy stabbed Tania and wrapped the children's mouths with scotch tape and the accused looted a mobile phone, gold ornaments and money.

The technology expert team of DMP first arrested Bappy, he said, adding later with the information received from Bappy, they arrested Sumon Hossain Hridoy and Rubel.

All of the accused have already given confessional statement primarily, Ahad said, adding that a Dhaka court has placed Bappy on a 5-day remand. Of the looted goods, he said, police have recovered two gold necklaces and one pair earring from their possession.
