5 fishing trawlers in Barguna gutted in fire

A fire broke out at a dockyard in Patharghata upazila of Barguna, destroying five fishing trawlers on Monday night.

According to our Patuakhali correspondent, the loss from the fire is expected to be over Tk 1.5 crore.

The event occurred about 11:30 p.m. last night (April 10, 2022) at Maulana Abdul Quader's dockyard in Patharghata municipality's ward 9.

Tofayel Ahmed, Barguna Additional Superintendent of Police (Patharghata circle), verified that the fire was brought under control after one and a half hours by locals and fire personnel.

Quader, the owner of the dockyard, said when asked about the cause of the fire, "I'm not sure how the fire started after I left the building late at night. However, I assume it was set on fire by someone who was enraged."

According to Patharghata Fire Service Station official Shahjahan Sikhder, the cause of the fire could not be determined immediately.

He went on to say that an investigating committee would be formed into the occurrence.
