Lighter ship sinks in Bay of Bengal, 12 sailors missing

Twelve people are missing after a lighter ship sank off the coast of Bhasanchar in Noakhali in the Bay of Bengal.

Coast Guard Media Officer Lt. Commander Abdur Rahman said the ship sank at Gangnirchar, 12 nautical miles away from Bhasanchar in Noakhali. 

However, it is not known exactly when it sank.

A naval ship had begun work to rescue the missing sailors, said the naval officer adding that a Coast Guard ship also arrived near the scene.
