US citizen detained with 7 kg of gold in Shahjalal

Shahnaz Chowdhury, a US citizen of Bangladeshi origin, was detained at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

The preventive team of Dhaka Custom House arrested her and informed the media in a statement.

Shahnaz Chowdhury arrived in Dhaka on Emirates Airlines Flight EK582. Some 59 gold bars weighing six kilograms and 800 grams were seized from her possession when she was searched at Boarding Bridge No. 7. 

It is learnt that she brought the gold from the United States. However, she took transit in Dubai on her way to Dhaka from the United States.

It is learned that a case is underway to file against her.
