Tensions prevailing in New Market area again, traffic stopped

Tensions are running high again between businessmen and Dhaka College students in the capital's New Market. 

As a result, the administration has stopped the movement of all types of vehicles on Nilkhet-Newmarket road.

Police have cordoned off the area around 4:30 pm on Wednesday.

Hundreds of students gathered in front of Dhaka College in groups around 4 pm on Wednesday, chanting various slogans including 'Action Action, Direct Action'. 

At this time more and more students in groups have started gathering in front of Dhaka College. 

They demanded that the market won’t be left open keeping the college closed and that a speedy trial be held in the wake of Tuesday's attack on students.

Meanwhile, traders and employees have also started gathering under the over bridge in front of New Market. 

However, a large number of police are deployed in the New Market area to deal with all kinds of situations. 

Police members are on high alert for everything including water cannons and tear shells.
