BNP leader Maqbool put on 3-day remand over clashes in New Market area

A Dhaka court has granted a three-day remand to BNP leader Maqbool Hossain in a case filed in connection with an attack on police during a clash between businessmen and students of Dhaka College in New Market area.
Earlier, he was taken into custody at the Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court around 10:30 am on Saturday.
When he was taken to the court yard at noon, the police applied for a 7-day remand. The court later granted a three-day remand, said Shahen Shah Mahmud, ADC, New Market Zone.
The ADC said there were allegations of provocation and assault on police against Maqbool. They need to be identified and remanded for interrogation.
Maqbool is the number one accused in the case filed against him for attacking the police on the day of the clash in New Market area.
Maqbool, the former president of New Market Thana BNP, has also two shops in the market. Police are claiming that the clash started from one of his shops.
