'Asani' moves northwestwards, likely to weaken: Met office

The severe cyclonic storm "Asani" over west central Bay and adjoining area moved northwestwards and now lies over the same area.

It was affirmed by the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) bulletin valid for 24 hours commencing 9am on Tuesday.

"It is likely to move in a northwesterly direction and weaken into a Cyclonic Storm during the next 12 hours. Maritime ports of Bangladesh have been advised to keep hoisted Distant Warning Signal No. Two," said the bulletin.

"Light to moderate rain or thunder showers with lightning flashes and temporary gusty or squally wind is likely to occur at most places over Rajshahi, Mymensingh, Dhaka, Khulna, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions and at many places over Rangpur division with moderately heavy to very heavy falls at places over Khulna, Barishal and Chattogram divisions," it added.
