5,000 families are celebrating Eid in Barisal

Around 5,000 families in different upazilas of the district including Barisal metropolis are celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday.

Eid-ul-Fitr prayers have been held in more than 50 mosques in the district at 9 am on Monday.

Those who are celebrating Eid on Monday are followers of Jahagiria Shahsufi Mumtazia Darbar Sharif in Chandnaish, Chittagong. 

When the moon is seen in any part of the world, they observe all religious rituals including fasting, Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha.

Amir Hossain, chairman of Jahagiria Shahsufi Mumtazia Jame Mosque Steering Committee of Haji Bari in Tajkathi, Ward No. 23 of Barisal city, said that about 500 families from South Sagardi, Tajkathi and surrounding areas of Ward No. 23 are celebrating Eid today. Eid prayers were offered at 9 am at Jahagiria Shahsufi Mumtazia Jame Mosque, he added.

Momin Uddin Kalu, president of Shahsufi Mumtazia Jame Mosque, Chowdhury Bari, East Harinafulia, Ward 26, said they had offered Eid prayers at the mosque premises at 9am. About 1,000 families are celebrating Eid in their wards on Monday, he said.

More than 200 families in Ward No. 22 and Dapadapiya area of the city are celebrating Eid prayers on Monday.

According to Chandanaish Darbar Sharif of Babuganj upazila of Barisal, , Md. Nazrul Islam, general secretary of Abdur Rashid Sikder Snriti Jame Mosque of Khanpura village said that Eid is being celebrated on Monday in more than one thousand families of 5-6 villages including Khanpura, Kedarpur and Madhabpasha of Babuganj. Eid Jamaat has been held in Khanpura, Kedarpur and Madhabpasha.

Momin Uddin Kalu, a follower of Jahgiria Shahsufi Mumtazia Darbar Sharif of Chandnaish in Chittagong, told The Daily Samakal that there are about 2,000 followers of Chandnaish Darbar in Muladi, Hijla, Mehendiganj Upazilas of Barisal and Chandramohan, Patang, Laharhat villages of Sadar Upazila. They are also celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr today.
