HC cancels Samrat's bail in graft case

The bail granted to ex-Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Chowdhury Samrat in a graft case filed by the Anti Corruption Commission (ACC) for amassing money beyond his recognized income source was Wednesday revoked by the High Court (HC).

At the same time, the court ordered Samrat to surrender to the relevant judicial court within seven days.

The order was issued by a High Court Division Bench consisting of Justice Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Justice Kazi Md Ejarul Haque Akondo.

Samrat was granted bail by the lower court in four cases between March 31 and May 11 this year.

On May 11, the jail officials released Samrat after obtaining the bail papers. Samrat, on the other hand, continues to be treated at the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital.

According to ACC lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan, "Despite the fact that bail was granted on medical grounds, the court received no medical report. As a result, his bail was revoked by the High Court."

In court, senior lawyer Mansurul Haque Chowdhury represented the ex-Jubo League leader.
