Deep convection in Bay; maritime ports asked to hoist signal 3

The country's marine ports have been advised to raise the local cautious signal three to warn ships of a possible squall due to deep convection over the North Bay, according to the Met Office.

Squally weather is forecast to hit Bangladesh's maritime ports, the North Bay, and other coastal areas, it said.

In view of the scenario, maritime ports in Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra have been urged to hoist local cautious signal three.

"Until further notice, all fishing boats and trawlers in the North Bay have been advised to approach the coast with caution," the statement read.

According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, rain or thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind are anticipated to occur in most parts of the country under the influence of deep convection, with moderately heavy to heavy falls at places across the country.

The turbulent mixing of air parcels that travels from the lower to the upper atmosphere due to thermal factors is known as deep convection.
