3 to die, 6 others to life-term for killing Dhobaura trader

A Dhaka court has awarded death penalty to three accused and sentenced life-term imprisonment to six others for killing a trader at Dhobaura upazila in Mymensingh district in 2013.

The death-row convicts are- Nowshad, Shahabuddin and Sabuj, identified with their single names.

The convicts who were given the capital punishments are: Maram, Mohim, Jasim, Miah Hossain and Jalal Uddin.The Judge of Dhaka Speedy Trial Tribunal-3 Monir Kamal pronounced the verdict at a crowded court. The court also fined Taka 20,000 to each of the convicts. 

The court also acquitted three accused – Emdadul, Kudrat Ali and Hasan Ali– as charges were not proved against them. Another accused Rashid died during the trial of the case.

According to the case statement, Uzzal Miah, a trader of Botihala village under Dhobaura upazila in Mymensingh, had disputes with convicts over land and he was killed at the night of March 27 in 2013 while returning home from a traditional fair held at neighbouring village.
