Cumilla city polls: 9 jailed for violating code of conduct

Nine people have been sentenced to different terms of imprisonment for violating the code of conduct in the Comilla City Corporation polls.

They were arrested from different areas five hours after the polling started at 8 am on Wednesday.

This information has come to light from separate short messages sent by Cumilla district administration.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Kamrul Hasan said immediate action was being taken if anyone tried to commit any irregularity or violence at the polling station. 

“We, the local administration and the Election Commission, are working hard to ensure a smooth and peaceful vote. Hopefully, we will be able to finish voting peacefully for the rest of the time.”
