AL-backed candidate Rifat wins Cumilla city polls by 343 votes

Arfanul Haque Rifat, a candidate backed by the Awami League, has won the mayoral election, according to the results of the vote count in the Cumilla City Corporation election, which were announced just minutes ago.

According to the voting results of 105 centers given by Returning Officer Shahedunnabi Chowdhury, Rifat received 50,310 votes and went on to defeat independent candidate Monirul Haque Sakku, who received 49,967 votes under the "table clock" sign.

This is the third election of Cumilla City Corporation. Voting begins at 8 a.m. and continued peacefully till 4pm on Wednesday without any break.
