4 more containers contain chemicals

The army has initially confirmed that four more containers at the BM container depot in Sitakunda, Chittagong, contained chemicals.

Lieutenant Colonel Ariful Islam, commander of the 18th Brigade of the 24th Infantry Division of the Army, made the disclosure at a press conference at the scene around 12 noon on Monday.

He said the army has been working at the accident site since Sunday and they are assisting the fire fighters to bring the blaze under control.

The army official added, “Initially, we found out that four more containers contained chemicals. Attempts are being made to stop the smoke and fire in the containers. The rest of the work will be done once the fire is under control.”

In response to a question, Ariful Islam said that the army members had put sand in various drains around the container depot so that the chemicals would not fall into the sea.
