Stay beside people with a vow to provide services: PM to physicians

Sheikh Hasina, Bangladesh's Prime Minister, asked doctors to stay by their patients' sides today, promising to give services because medicine is more than a job.

The Premier made the remarks as the chief guest at the opening ceremony of the 14th convocation of the Bangladesh College of Physicians and Surgeons (BCPSgolden) at the Bangabandhu International Conference Centre (BICC).

Sheikh Hasina stated that when a doctor patiently listens to a patient, it instills trust in the patient and facilitates healing. She talked virtually from Ganabhaban, her official house.

She went on to remark that it is a proven truth that a patient is half healed after hearing the doctor's comments.

Everyone, regardless of their profession, should continue, according to the Prime Minister.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque spoke as special guest.

With BCPS President Professor Quazi Deen Mohammad in the chair, former BCPS President Professor AHM Towhidul Anwar Chowdhury delivered welcome address.

BCPS Secretary Dr Mohammad Billal Alam introduced the foreign guests attending the ceremony. BCPS Senior Vice President Professor Abul Bashar Mohammed Khurshid Alam gave the vote of thanks.

At the outset of the event, the theme song of BCPS and a video documentary on the activities of BCPS were screened.
