5 killed in bus-auto-rickshaw collision in Kaliakair

Five people were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a battery-operated auto-rickshaw at Makishbathan 'T&T Battala' in Gazipur's Kaliakair upazila around 12:15 am on Sunday.

The deceased are auto driver Nazrul Islam, 27, son of Ayub Ali of Sheikhbari area of Bhuyapur police station of Tangail district; Mehedi Hasan, 44, son of Mominuddin Sikdar of Angarpara area of Sadar police station of Barguna district; Atiqul Islam, 44, son of late Azim Uddin of Kaliakair police station of Gazipur district; Saidul Islam, 27, of the same police station; Shahin Uddin, 28, son of Atiyar Rahman of Dahar Manjara area of Jhikargacha police station of Jessore district.

Sub-Inspector (SI) of Kaliakair Police Station Rahat Akand told The Daily Samakal that the bodies of the victims have been handed over to their families without post-mortem.

The bus has been seized. However, the driver was not detained. Legal action is under process in this incident.
