Writ filed challenging fuel price hike

A Supreme Court lawyer filed a writ petition with the High Court today, August 8, 2022, questioning the legality of the government's decision to increase the price of petroleum products.

In a plea to the High Court, advocate Md. Eunus Ali Akond requested a suspension of the government notification of the increase in fuel prices.

On August 5, the government increased the cost of gasoline, octane, and diesel by 51.1 percent, 51.7 percent, and 42.5 percent, respectively.

Eunus Ali used the petition when he claimed that the government had "unreasonably" raised the cost of fuel goods without holding a public hearing or asking the public for their opinion, which is against the law and the constitution.
