Cabinet orders to explain fuel price hike

In an unscheduled discussion in the cabinet meeting on Thursday, the Energy and Mineral Resources Division of the Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources has been directed to present the rationale and detailed explanation for the increase in fuel prices.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina chaired the meeting virtually from Gana Bhavan while the ministers joined meeting from the Cabinet Division at the Secretariat.

After that, Cabinet Secretary Khandkar Anwarul Islam held a press conference at the Secretariat and announced the decision of the meeting.

When asked whether there was any discussion about the price of fuel oil in the meeting, the Cabinet Secretary said, in the meantime, the Ministry of Power, Energy & Mineral Resources and the chairman of BPC (Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation) have spoken in details to the press and it was just notified in the cabinet meet.
