Fire in Chawkbazar: Hotel owner arrested

Chawkbazar police arrested Fakhruddin, the owner of Barisal Hotel located under the building, in connection with the fire at Kamal Bagh, Chawkbazar, Old Dhaka.

Deputy Commissioner of Police of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Lalbagh Division Zafar Hossain confirmed that Fakhruddin was arrested from his home in Lalbagh on Tuesday.

He said that the police operation is continuing to arrest the owner of the building and the owner of the plastic factory.

It happened at Polythene factory in Chowkbazar around 12 noon on Monday. The fire service said that the bodies of six people were recovered in this incident.

Meanwhile, Minister of State for Labour and Employment Begum Mannujan Sufian announced that the government will provide Taka two lakh to the families of the victims of the fire each.
