Tea workers blockade road, announce work abstention

Thousands of workers of five tea gardens blockaded Dhaka-Sylhet highway in Jagdishpur of Madhabpur, Habiganj on the 5th day of continuous strike on Thursday afternoon demanding a wage of Tk300.

They stayed on the highway from 2:00 pm to 2:30 am demanding an increase in wages.

At this time, the workers gave different slogans to continue the movement. The labor leaders said that in the meeting at the office of the director general of the labor department in Dhaka on Wednesday, the owners actually made jokes with the workers in the name of talks.

It has become difficult for the tea workers to make a living on a wage of Tk120 due to the increase in commodity prices. For this, the tea workers have been forced to take to the streets to demand a wage of Tk300.

Pointing at the government, the workers said that if the wages of tea workers are not increased to Tk 300 per day, they will not return to work under any circumstances. If necessary, they will go out of the garden and run the family by working as laborers.
