HC asks ACC to probe allegations against Ramna OC

The High Court has ordered the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to look into the allegation that Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monirul Islam of Ramna Police Station accumulated a significant amount of wealth illegally.

The ACC has been given three months to finish the inquiry.

Following a writ petition submitted by Supreme Court lawyer Syed Sayedul Haque Suman, requesting the required instructions on the commission for an investigation into the charges against OC Monirul, the bench of Justices Md Nazrul Islam Talukder and Khizir Hayat issued the ruling.

ACC's lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan informed the HC bench during the hearing that his client has already decided to launch an investigation into the claims made against the police officer.

Based on a story that the daily Prothom Alo published on August 5, Sayedul Haque Suman filed the writ petition as a public interest litigation on August 10.

According to the investigation, The OC has accumulated a sizable quantity of property, including buildings and plots, illegally.

According to the Prothom Alo newspaper, there is also a claim that he took possession of a liberation fighter's building in the capital's Mohammadpur Housing Society.

In response to the Prothom Alo report, OC Monirul published a statement disputing the claims. After then, the publication released a retort claiming to have reported on relevant papers.
