Shamsul Haque Tuku made Deputy Speaker

Shamsul Haque Tuku, Member of Parliament for Pabna-1 Constituency, has been elected Deputy Speaker of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad .

At the beginning of the twenty-ninth session of the eleventh national parliament on Sunday, the deputy speaker was elected after the nomination of the presidium.

Chief Whip Noor-e-Alam Chowdhury proposed the name of former home minister Shamsul Haque Tuku as Deputy Speaker and that proposal was supported by former law minister Kamrul Islam.

Speaker said, "Honorable member Shamsul Haque Tuku said that he will serve as Deputy Speaker if he is elected."

When the motion is raised, the Speaker put it to a vote and it is passed by voice vote in the parliament.

The new deputy speaker will be sworn in at 7pm Sunday, according to the parliament secretariat. 

President Abdul Hamid will administer the oath at his chamber in Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban.

The post of deputy speaker was left vacant following the demise of Fazle Rabbi Miah who passed away on 22 July at a hospital in New York, USA.
