ACC urges HC to revoke Samrat's bail

The Anti-Corruption Commission has submitted a petition to the High Court asking that the lower court's recent bail decision for expelled Jubo League leader Ismail Hossain Samrat in a corruption case be revoked.

According to ACC's lawyer Khurshid Alam Khan, the case may be heard by the HC panel of Justices Md. Nazrul Islam Talukder and Khizir Hayat later in the day.

Earlier in the day, the bench allowed the ACC to file the petition with the court seeking cancellation of the lower court order on Samrat's bail.

In the corruption case brought against him for diverting roughly Tk 222 crore and sending funds to casinos in Singapore and Malaysia between 2011 and 2018, Samrat recently received ad-interim bail from a Dhaka court.

On Friday, Samrat staged a showdown while making his first appearance in the public in three days after being released on bail.

With thousands of Jubo League leaders and members, he traveled to Dhanmondi 32 on Friday to pay respects to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
