Chinese contractor blamed for girder accident in Uttara

An inquiry committee has found a Chinese contractor responsible for the death of five people over the girder falling incident  in Uttara.

At the same time the contractor has been recommended to be punished.

However, it has been left to the ministry whether to take strict measures like canceling the contract and blacklisting the contractor.

The committee submitted the investigation report to the Road Transport Secretary on Thursday.

Although the report has not been published, related sources told The Daily Samakal that the contractor's negligence was responsible for the accident at Jasim Uddin intersection in the capital's Uttara on August 15.

The Daily Samakal could not get the statement of additional secretary Neelima Akhtar, convener of the seven-member investigation committee. Additional Chief Engineer Sabuj Uddin Khan of the Roads and Public Ways Department did not agree to comment in this regard.
