PM opens Bangamata Fazilatun Nesa Bridge in Pirojpur

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has officially launched the eagerly awaited "Bangamata Begum Fazilatun Nesa Mujib 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge" over the Kacha River in Pirojpur.

She opened the 1,493-meter bridge on Sunday morning practically from her office in the city.

The opening of the bridge, which established a direct road link between the Khulna and Barishal divisions, fulfilled the dreams of millions of people in the country's southwest.

The bridge's construction started on November 1st of last year. The Roads and Highways Department constructed the "Bangamata Begum Fazilatun Nesa Mujib the 8th Bangladesh-China Friendship Bridge" for a total of Taka 894.08 crore.

While the Chinese government provided Tk 654.80 crore in project support for the bridge, the Bangladeshi government spent Tk 239.80 crore on it.

The bridge helps to provide direct access by road to Benapole, the biggest land port in the country, Payra deep sea port, Mongla sea port, and Kuakata Sea beach.
