Engineers must have farsightedness in development plans: President

President Abdul Hamid today said engineers must have farsightedness and creativity in formulation of development plans for the country, reports the BSS.

 

"Engineers must have clear farsightedness in their thinking and spirit as any sustainable development plan for the country comes out of their merits, talent and creativity," said the President while addressing the 3rd Convocation of Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology (CUET) at Raozan upazila in Chittagong.

 

"What should be the nature of development for Bangladesh in 2015 or 2100 or at which level Bangladesh would reach at that time must be taken into consideration for formulation of our future development plans," he added.

 

Underscoring the need for ensuring proper use of resources, the President said Bangladesh is a country with immense potentials as it has huge human resources and fertile arable land. Utilization of these resources in a planned way must be ensured for the development of this populous country, he added.

 

Congratulating the new graduates of CUET, President Hamid, who is also the chancellor of the university, reminded the fresh graduates about their responsibility for the country as well as the people and asked them to work with devotion, honesty and sincerity for the welfare of the country.

 

He asked the university authorities to attach importance to research activities and adopt time-befitting curriculum so that the students can prepare them maintaining the international standard.

 

A total of 603 students received degrees at the convocation. Three students have been awarded PhD and three got gold medal for their outstanding academic performance.

 

University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Abdul Mannan, CUET Vice-Chancellor Md Jahangir Alam and Pro-VC Mohammad Rafiqul Alam also spoke on the occasion. Professor Jamilur Reza Chowdhury delivered the convocation speech.
