RMG owners asked to pay Eid bonus by 21st Ramadan

State Minister for Labour and Employment Md. Mujibul Haque (Chunnu) on Sunday asked the garment factory owners to pay Eid bonus to their workers by 21st Ramadan, reports UNB.

“Eid bonus will have to be paid to the workers from 15th to 21st Ramadan,” he told reporters after a meeting with the representatives of garment factory owners and workers at the Bangladesh Secretariat.

The junior minister also directed the garment factory owners to pay wages of June before Eid-ul Fitr and grant Eid leave in phases to avoid traffic jam on highways.

Chunnu urged the factory owners not to retrench workers before Eid-ul Fitr, the largest religious festival of the Muslims, which will be celebrated across the country in early of July.

Members of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers & Exporters Association (BKMEA) and representatives of the workers were present at the meeting chaired by the state minister.

Labour and Employment Secretary Mikail Shipar was also present at the 30th meeting of the Crisis Management Core Committee.
