20 pharma companies asked to stop production

The High Court (HC) has directed 20 pharmaceuticals companies to stop production within seven days for their failure to produce standard medicines.
A bench of Justice Syed Muhammad Dastagir Hussain and Justice AKM Shahidul Haq passed the directive on Tuesday after a hearing in this regard.
The health secretary, chiefs of the directorate general of health service and directorate general of drug administration have been asked to report by two weeks over implementation of the order.
The 20 pharmaceuticals companies are: Axim, Avert, Bikolpo, Dolphin, Drugland, Globe, Alpha, Kafma, Medico, National drug, North Bangle, Remo chemicals, Rid Pharma, Skylab, Spark, Star, Sunipun, Today, Tropical and Universal.
The Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh (HRPB) filed the petition with the HC on Sunday saying that the licences of these drug companies should be cancelled as they have failed to produce standard medicines.
On behalf of the HRPB advocate Manzill Murshid filed the petition. According to it, the right to life of citizens has been violated due to manufacturing of substandard medicines.
