Small port to be built in middle of Mirersari-Sitakunda

Chairman of Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) Rear Admiral Iqbal Khaled said a new small port will be built in the middle point of Mirersari and Sitakunda upazila of the district, reports the BSS.

 

The pre-feasibility study for the new port has already been completed recently, he added.

 

The CPA chairman disclosed this while exchanging views with the journalists at Munshi Abdur Rouf auditorium on Wednesday afternoon.

 

He said the government has taken initiatives to set up 10 economic zones in the country, including three in Mirersari, Anwara and Feni.

 

"We are mulling over to set up a port in between Mirersari and Sitakunda and within the vicinity of the country's premier port Chittagong that resulted from the feasibility study," he added.

 

Iqbal Khaled said the CPA is taking up overall preparations to set up the port as the government proposed Dhaka-Chittagong-Cox's Bazaar economic corridor and a techno economic feasibility study will be carried out in this regard.

 

Referring to enhancement of CPA productivity, the port Chairman said the congestion of vessels and other problems will reduce to a great extent when equipment worth about TK 12 billion will be procured by open tender very soon.

 

"The productivity of the port is gradually increasing and the import-export activities to be done in next 10 years will almost be impossible to handle in this port, so the CPA has taken up initiative to build Bay-Terminal," the CPA Chairman said adding that the work for land acquisition could begin after getting no-objection certificate from environment directorate within a month.
