Bangladesh to resume potato export to Russia: Razzaque

Bangladesh will resume exporting potatoes to Russia this year, said Agriculture Minister Dr Abdur Razzaque.

The minister came up with the announcement while talking to reporters after his meeting with Russian Ambassador to Bangladesh Alexander Mantytskiy on Sunday.

Due to the discovery of the "Brown Rot" disease in potatoes in 2014, Russia placed a ban on Bangladeshi potatoes. As Bangladesh's government took steps to ensure that potatoes were safe and bacteria-free, it was lifted in March 2022.

According to the Russian Ambassador, in addition to potatoes, Russia is also interested in purchasing mangoes, cauliflower, and cabbage from Bangladesh because such fruits are particularly sweet and of good quality.

He continued, "I want to get mangoes and cauliflower to Russia as soon as I can.

The signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to import potassium fertilizers and di-ammonium phosphate (DAP) from Russia was discussed during the meeting.
