Sugar prices to go down in first week of Ramadan: Commerce Minister

Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi said that the price of sugar will be reduced by Tk5 per kg in the first week of Ramadan.

He said this to the journalists after the meeting of the task force on commodity price control in the meeting room of the Ministry of Commerce at the Secretariat on Sunday.

The meeting was attended by high-level officials of various organizations, including FBCCI, Prime Minister's Office, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Local Government, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Food, Ministry of Social Welfare, Bangladesh Bank, National Board of Revenue, Bangladesh Food Safety Authority, Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection.

The commerce minister said that due to the exemption of sugar duty, a discount of Tk 4 per kg will be available.

“We requested the traders to reduce the price of sugar by Tk5 per kg. They agreed with us. Hopefully the price of sugar will decrease by Tk5 per kg in the first week of Ramadan,” he said.

Tipu has assured that the prices of daily commodities will not increase in any way during the upcoming month of Ramadan.

The minister said FBCCI and business leaders have also given words them in this regard.
