DNCRP to conduct drives to keep spice market stable

The Directorate of the National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) will conduct drives from Monday at all the kitchen markets across the country, including in the capital, to keep the supply and prices of spices stable ahead of the Holy Eid ul Azha.

DNCRP Director General AHM Shafiquzzaman said this after holding a meeting with the wholesalers and retailers of spices at the DNCRP office at Kawranbazar in the capital on Sunday.

He said to keep the market of spices stable ahead of the holy Eid ul Azha, the market of spices across the country, including in the capital, would be monitored intensively over the next week.

Then, a report will be placed before the government based on the findings of the monitoring of the DNCRP and the data of the concerned intelligence agencies.

Shafiquzzaman said that efforts would be expanded if there is any problem regarding offloading of the spices at the ports.

Regarding the recent uptrend in the price of ginger, the director general said, "We're monitoring the market in Chattogram as well as in Dhaka. I'll urge all to inform us about the names of those wholesalers who will sell products without invoices. Then we'll take action accordingly."

Deputy director of DNCRP of Chattogram regional office, while speaking at the meeting, virtually said that Burmese and Indian ginger is being sold in the port city at Tk 180 to 190 per kg, which is also being sold at the retail market at Tk 220 to 280 per kg.

Deputy director of DNCRP Monjur Md Shahriar, assistant director Abdul Jabbar Mandal, and traders of New Market, Shyambazar, Kawranbazar, and Shah Ali Market, among others, spoke at the meeting.
