Bangladesh-Oman inks new LNG deal

Bangladesh and Oman have inked a new agreement under which Bangladesh will get 1.5 MTPA more liquefied natural gas (LNG) starting in 2026 for the following ten years.

At a celebration on Monday at the Hotel Shonargaon, state-owned Petrobangla of Bangladesh signed the new deal with OQ Trading of Oman.

Said Al Maawali, executive director of OQT, and Ruchira Islam, secretary of Petrobabangla, each signed the deal on behalf of their respective organisations.

Bangladesh has been importing 1-1.5 MTPA of LNG as per an existing agreement since 2019.

Five more years can be added to the contract.

According to the new contract, there will be four extra cargos in 2026, up to 16 in 2028, and 24 more after that until 2035.

Prime Minister's advisor on energy and power Tawfiq E Elahi, and Oman Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdul Ghaffar Albulushi were present at the contract signing ceremony.
