US company to make engine for Indian fighter jets

General Electric's aerospace unit of United States will make fighter jet engines for the Indian Air Force.

General Electric's has signed an agreement with India's state-owned Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd on Thursday.

The development takes place when Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is on a state visit to the US.

The deal, according to GE Aerospace, also addresses the potential collaborative manufacture of F414 engines in India for the Tejas fighter jets.
