45 tonnes of green chilli imported through Benapole

Six trucks carrying 45 tonnes of imported chilli arrived in the country through Benapole on Sunday evening.

Confirming the matter, Benapole Land Port Director Abdul Jalil said several more trucks carrying green chilli were waiting to cross the border.

Dhaka's Messers Usha Trading, NS Enterprise, and Khulna's SM Corporation imported the green chilli. Usha Trading's C&F agent Rafikul Islam Royal said the imported green chilli was collected from several markets in West Bengal.

The government gave the permission to import 36,830 tonnes of green chilli to curb the recent steep price hike of the essential kitchen item.

Following government initiatives, the price of green chilli has started to come down in different markets across the country.
