Bangladesh's finance minister, AHM Mustafa Kamal
The IMF loan repayment would not be difficult, according to Bangladesh's finance minister, AHM Mustafa Kamal, because the loan amount is comparable to the country's two-month remittance.
He made the comment while talking to reporters after a meeting with Executive Senior Vice President of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) Junichi Yamada at secretariat in the city on Thursday.
On 30 January 2023, IMF approved a credit facility of US$ 4.7 billion for Bangladesh.
Mustafa Kamal claims that the government's request for the IMF loan was motivated by worry about the possible consequences of the Russia-Ukraine war.
However, he asserted that when the current government initially entered power, the inflation rate was 12.30 per cent.
He noted that the GDP growth has been near (to the target) over the past three years while highlighting the advancement of several macroeconomic indicators.
