No one has the power to control market: Mannan

Planning Minister MA Mannan has said no one in the world has the power to control the market as the market controls itself. However, some elements such as supply and demand can be analysed theoretically.

The minister made the remark while speaking to journalists after an event at the TSC auditorium of Dhaka University at around 11:30am on Friday.

He graced the inauguration event of "Bangladesh Marketing day" arranged by Bangladesh Marketers Institute, as the chief guest.

Mannan said, "If we could see the market syndicates, could catch them, then we could've taken measures."

When asked about comparing Bangladesh's economy to that of Sri Lanka, he said, "Sri Lanka is our ally, neighbour. There is no point in drawing comparisons."

Bangladesh's economy is rising, he said. "There will be some discrepancies in this kind of economy, some will take the chance of making a profit. Regulatory controllers or agencies have to implement rules and regulations to tackle this.

"Whatever policy there is, has to be implemented at the field level. Some lackings tend to happen sometimes."
