Govt to sell potato, onion, lentil, oil from Tuesday

In an attempt to pull the rein on the skyrocketing price of essential commodities, the government will start a truck sale programme to offer potatoes, onions, lentils and soybean oil at lower prices in the capital from Tuesday.

This programme will run simultaneously with the subsidized sale of essential commodities by the Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB), Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Tapan Kanti Ghosh said at a press conference held at the Secretariat on Monday.

He said 25-30 trucks will be involved with the sale which will benefit almost 9,000 families.

From this truck sale, each consumer can buy a maximum of 2 kgs of potatoes at Tk 30 per kg, 2kgs of onions at Tk 50 per kg, 2kgs of lentils at Tk 60 per kg, and 2 litres of soybean oil at Tk 100 per litre.
