Implement new wage as soon as it comes into effect: BGMEA

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) has asked its members to implement the new wage as soon as it comes into effect.

"The minimum wage was announced. The final gazette will come before the running month is over, implementing it is a challenge as well as a responsibility," reads a letter from BGMEA President Faruque Hassan.

"It may be difficult for many to implement, but as soon as it comes into effect, we should be committed to ourselves to implement it," he added.

The BGMEA president talked about issues regarding the industry's overall situation, the movement for minimum wage, damage to the RMG industry's brand image, and buyers' worries in the letter issued Wednesday.
