Minimum wage for RMG workers finalized at Tk12,500

The minimum wage for readymade garments industry workers in the country was finalized at Tk 12,500.

This announcement came at the seventh and last meeting of the wage board held Sunday.

Previously, Readymade Garments sector owners had proposed to increase the minimum wage of workers to Tk 12,500 at a meeting held by the Minimum Wage Board.

The proposal came at the board's 6th meeting held at the office of the board at Segunbagicha in the capital on November 7.

RMG sector workers in the capital and adjoining areas have been protesting with the demand for a minimum wage of Tk 23,000, despite efforts by the government, workers' leaders, and owners' associations to normalise the situation.

On October 21, workers demanded that their minimum wage be increased from the existing Tk 8,000 to Tk 20,390 while earlier, the owners proposed to increase it to Tk 10,400.
