15 entrepreneurs of RMG elected as MPs

A total of 15 entrepreneurs of the garment sector have been elected Members of Parliament in the 12th national parliament elections. Six of them were also MPs in the 11th parliament and three of six MPs held the jobs of minister and state minister. They were elected as Awami League, Jatiya Party and independent candidates.

Tipu Munshi, former president of BGMEA, commerce minister and founder managing director of Sepal Group, was re-elected from Rangpur-4 (Pirgacha-Kaunia) constituency.

Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Minister Tajul Islam, founder of Fabian Group, was re-elected in Comilla-9 seat. Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Foreign Affairs and founder of Renaissance Group, was re-elected from Rajshahi-6 (Bagha-Charghat) seat. Beximco Group Vice Chairman and also Prime Minister's Private Industry and Investment Adviser Salman F Rahman was re-elected from Dhaka-1 constituency.

A.K. Azad, managing director of Ha-Meem Group, was elected as an independent candidate among the entrepreneurs of the garment industry. Awami League leader A.K. Azad won Faridpur-3 (Sadar) for the first time.

Other MPs from the garment sector are Nipa Group Chairman and BGMEA Director Mohammad Khosru Chowdhury. He was elected from Dhaka-18 seat. Abdus Salam, founder chairman of Well Group, was elected from Chittagong-8 (Chandgaon-Boalkhali) seat. Choyon Islam, Managing Director of Sparrow Group elected from Sirajganj-6 constituency. Tusuka Group's Fayzur Rahman Badal won Brahmanbaria-5.

Mujibur Rahman of Smart Group was elected from Chittagong-16. Dewan Zahid Ahmed Tutul of Axis Knitwear was elected from Manikganj-2 and Mondol Group Managing Director Abdul Momin Mondol won from Sirajganj-5 constituency.

Chairman of Shasha Denims and Co-Chairman of Jatiya Party Anisul Islam Mahmud was elected in Chittagong-5 (Hathazari) seat.

President of Bangladesh Knitwear Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BKMEA) and Managing Director of Wisdom Attires Salim Osman won Narayanganj-5.
