World Bank to assist in finance sector reforms: Minister

The World Bank will assist Bangladesh in reforming the finance sector, Finance Minister Abul Hassan Mahmood Ali said on Thursday.

"World Bank has said the country's finance sector needs reforms. They are ready to assist in the matter. They also pledged to assist in overall economic development," the minister said.

He made the remark while talking to journalists after Abdoulaye Seck, World Bank Country Director for Bangladesh and Bhutan, paid him a visit at the Ministry of Finance at Bangladesh Secretariat.

The minister did not specify which matters of the sector need reforming.

A source at the ministry said Abdoulaye Seckhas urged taking necessary steps to reduce inflation and make reforms in several matters.
