No more banks to be merged now: BB

Bangladesh Bank has said that no new bank proposals will be accepted until the merger of the five banks is completed.

Spokesperson and Executive Director of Bangladesh Bank Mezbaul Haque told The Daily Samakal on Monday that five proposals for bank merger have been received so far. Until the merger of these banks is completed, no new proposal will be accepted for now. 

“After completing all the processes of the banks, new proposals will be considered in the light of experience,” he added.

The initial phase of merger of five weak banks has already started with the mediation of Bangladesh Bank. The banks will be merged are Padma Bank, Bangladesh Development Bank Limited (BDBL), National Bank, Basic Bank, and Rajshahi Krishi Unnayan Bank (RAKUB)
