Cash withdrawals over Tk 1 lakh not allowed today

Citing security reasons, Bangladesh Bank has asked the banks of the country not to allow cash withdrawals of more than Tk 1 lakh on Thursday. 

The central bank gave instructions to bankers through a message on Wednesday night. This measure was only placed for Thursday. 

This measure was taken to discourage illegal usage of money, as the interim government oath-taking ceremony is scheduled for Thursday evening. 

However, even though people cannot withdraw more than Tk 1 lakh cash, any amount of money can be transacted digitally.

The banking regulator also suggested encouraging the depositors to pay their parties through crossed checks.
